Concept
In a core banking system, balance is not a single concept. When reading account inquiry, freeze, legal debit, withdrawal, or account closure pages, distinguish ledger balance, available balance, frozen amount, frozen balance, suspense amount, and suspense balance.
Ledger balance tells you how much is on the books. Available balance tells you how much can be used now.Balance Types

|---|---|---|
| Ledger balance | Current recorded account balance. | Account inquiry and transaction history. |
| Available balance | Amount currently allowed for withdrawal or transfer. | Deposit account inquiry. |
| Frozen amount | Original amount frozen. | Freeze register and special operation records. |
| Frozen balance | Amount still unreleased and still controlled by the freeze. | Freeze register and special operation records. |

Reading Notes
Ledger balance may not equal available balance. Common reasons include freezes, stop-pay controls, restriction codes, pending clearing, product withdrawal rules, time deposit maturity rules, limits, channel restrictions, and account status restrictions.
If an account has a ledger balance of 10,000 and 3,000 is frozen, available balance may be 7,000. The real system may apply additional rules, so the final answer should follow the displayed balance and system validation result.
Frozen amount means how much was frozen at the beginning. Frozen balance means how much is still frozen now. If frozen balance is lower than frozen amount, a partial release, legal debit, or other follow-up processing may have occurred.
Suspense amount and suspense balance work the same way: suspense amount is the amount originally posted to suspense, while suspense balance is what remains unresolved.
