Concept

A user transaction record answers:

Who processed what transaction, at what time, with which transaction code, and whether authorization or accounting elements were involved?

Reconciliation means operations review and confirmation of already-created transaction records.

User transaction record = trace of the transaction.
Reconciliation = operational confirmation of that trace.

Reconciliation Is Not Reversal

Why Reconciliation Exists

The system records transactions, but operations still need to confirm whether transaction code, account, amount, authorization, suspense item, reversal, and abnormal status are acceptable for closeout.

Reconciliation changes records from not reviewed to reviewed and records reviewer, time, and status.

Typical Records Requiring Review

Risk Controls

• Reconcile all is risky; query conditions must be correct.
• Reconciliation should record reviewer, time, and possibly authorization information.
• Large, reversal, suspense, and authorized transactions need extra attention.
• Unreconciled records before EOD may affect user balancing, institution sign-off, or operations review.
• If an already reconciled record is later found wrong, define whether unreconciliation or exception processing is allowed.
